Tawangmangu is well known as a mountainous tourism destination lying on the west slope of Mount Lawu. This site can be reached by an hour land travel from Surakarta (Solo). Since the era of Dutch colonialism, this site has been a tourism destination. The main place to visit in this area is Grojogan Sewu water fall (81m high). This recreational and contemplative site provides some tourism supporting features such as swimming pools and inns. Mountaineering to Mount Lawu (Cemoro Kandang post) can start from Tawangmangu. In addition, there in Tawangmangu is a shortcut way to Sarangan Lake in Magetan through Cemoro Sewu.
